Is it possible to assign the WAN port to the LAN switch either with the stock or the Merlin firmware? I read somewhere that this may work when in Access Point mode but I couldn't find a definite answer. I just need a "dumb" 5-port switch + AP, behind another wired router/gateway.

So, is anyone using this RT-AC66U model in Access Point mode and is able to use the WAN port as a 5th LAN port? Thank you.

My experience using both a N66U with Merlin's firmware and and the T-Mobil Cell Spot firmware from ASUS is that with both, once you are in the AP mode you connect your Ethernet connection to your router to what was the WAN port and then the remaining four LAN ports are available to use as switched Ethernet ports.

The conversion from WAN to LAN is automatically done once you select AP mode. It is not like DD-WRT where you had to make a selection.

Thank you. If this works I'll go ahead and buy one.
I assume it's a good choice and people are happy with it, in particular when running Merlin firmware?
