Using stock firmware I need to reboot my RT-N53 almost daily to keep it working.

Currently using latest ASUS Firmware version - 3.0.0.4.376_3754-g5ef7c1f

Any suggestions for a opensource type firmware that is more stable?

After putting router in rescue mode and executing the rescue utility, the utility can't find the router in rescue mode and the utility stops.

Any words of wisdom?

Did you set the PC onto a fixed IP address in the range of 192.168.1.x - x can be freely chosen, but need to be bigger then 1.

After the update you need to open the router GUI in the browser on 192.168.1.1 and configure the router as needed.

Only after this config you can set the PC back to automatic IP address and do not forget to change the DNS also back to automatic - was set to manual during the IP change.
