Mesh firmware upgrade

Note: A manual firmware update will only update selected AiMesh routers / nodes, when using the AiMesh system. Please make sure you are uploading the correct AiMesh firmware version to each applicable router / node.

I do not understand this. Is there something other than a "manual update?" How does one select an AiMesh router? Does doing a firmware update require one to log into each node to initiate individual node updates? Seems reasonable, but I simply do not understand what is being said in that quote.

Perhaps if I had a mesh setup it would make more sense to me. I only have a single router now but have been contemplating upgrading to a mesh configuration.
