Thanks for the info on how to return to an older firmware... now I feel armed to fix the problem! I will continue with my current tests (wife's phone with BT off, my phone with BT on (though I don't have the potentially problem-causing Tile app))... and we'll see what happens. If this "solves" it for the next few days, I'll try 61 and see if that fixes it without having to turn off BT.

RMerlin - the Bluetooth Coexistence setting... where is that, so I know what I'm looking for? Default enabled, or is this a potential "fix" for problems like mine?

Thanks for the help and new ideas, everyone!

Thanks, Sanna1967.

Just for my curiosity, anyone have idea of how this feature works? For example, the USB interference function slows down one or both of the interfaces... so I wonder what happens here.

If you click on the config name on the webui it will give an explanation as to what it does. Basically it disables a few 2.4 GHz features to prevent the two of them from interfering, such as TX bursting.

Well, continued testing showed me that turning off her BT didn't completely fix the problem - she still got a loss of internet for whatever reason. That being said, I switched her to 5GHz and the problem seems to have gone away for the past few days, so that's a good sign... and what I think we all expected to see.

I am in a large apartment complex with a lot of 2.4GHz usage around, so maybe someone else's new phone/monitor/microwave/router is what's causing the problem. Bottom line, I won't be able to solve that problem on my own, so switching her to 5GHz is good enough for now. I hate not finding a root cause, but in this case it's out of my control...

Thanks for the help and ideas. I plan to move to .61 now that I know I can downgrade if I want to.

Bit of advice please.
On both of my routers AC66 and AC88, running Merlin 380.59 firmware. I cannot access either router using http://xx.ddns.net:8080/ (xx is the full ddns name).
I can access successfully using http://wan address:8080/

The ddns address are correct and update correctly. And no problem to access devices attached to the routers using http://xx.ddns.net:deviceport/

Its only the router config that I cannot access.

Pinging xx.ddns.net provides the correct wan address of both routers. Rebooting the routers updates ddns.net and pinging xx.ddns.net provides correctly the new wan address.

I've tried on two windoze 10 pc's both with IE and Chrome. IE reports "this web page cannot be displayed".

So, what have I set wrong?

Edited for typo.

Do all your tests from the outside. Testing anything from inside can skew results, as you are going through the router's NAT loopback rather than truly through the Internet.

Hi Eric.
Yes, I am. Currently I am in China, trying to connect using http://xx.ddns.net:8080 to my AC88 which is located in UK - without success. But works by replacing xx.ddns.net with the wan address.
At the beginning of the week, I was in UK doing the test in the opposite direction, trying to connect to my AC66 located in China. Exactly the same result.

Both routers have vpn servers running and I can connect to them without issue, using with wan address or ddns. Also both routers have devices attached which can be accesses using either wan address:port or ddns.net:port. So I am very confused about this.

So the issue seems to be only access to the router config access, nothing else.

As you say, testing within the local LAN does connect using either wan ip or ddns to the local router. But I really cannot understand why it won't work over external internet. - on either router.

If I PM you with the ddns, wan address etc, of both routers, would you like to try?

Maybe a dumb question....but why are you using port 8080 instead of just 80? I didn't think that the stock/merlin code allowed changing the http port. If you are using a fork that allows it, you need to contact that fork owner.

On Admin - system page Port of Web Access from WAN shows 8080 as the default. I understand from a Merlin thread somewhere that this is to prevent the device getting confused. So the answer is that is what the default shows.
Edit. Not a dumb question, perfectly reasonable! For reference, the AC66 (here in Shanghai) is running standard Merlin firmware. The AC88 (in UK) is running the "modified" version of Merlins firmware, so that I can select the correct wifi channel allocation for UK. That's the only difference.

Update on this. I guess nobody else has the same problem.
On both routers I changed wan access from http only to both (http & https)
Now it is possible to access admin gui using https://xx.ddns.net:8443 (the default port for https).
IE reports a certificate error, but it works.
It still does not work with http://xx.ddns.net:8080 but at least I can access now using ddns.
Works fine using the actual wan address both with http or https (and the correct port for the mode).
I have no idea why this should be.

So i not really sure if router has anything to do with this but, is there some setting in router I need to enable disable to get my surface 3 to wirelessly connect to my sony 65xb830c and disaply image, I spent over 3 weeks trying to get the surface 3 to connect wirelessly and only thing i came up with is miracast/wireless display is utter trash. cause once i do get to to connect, and then disconnect it it wont connect again. Surface 3 sees the tv but has massive issuse connecting to.

And I am unsure surface 3 is using the wifi to connect the tv or if connecting direct to tv, or what. if there isnt some setting then i just gona get mini dp to hdmi cable.

Hi! I'm new here. Already replaced my RT-AC87U with RT-AC88U mostly for 8 LAN switch ;).

Using same WiFi 5GHz settings my BCM4352 card gets only 400Mbps connection vs. 866Mbps with 87U. Any idea what's wrong? Feel free to ask if more details needed.
I had the same problem. I suspect that the decrease in channel width due to a new regulation from the new ASUS wireless driver for RT-AC88U. My solution is to manually set the mode to 5GHz:
nvram set wl1_chanspec=149/80
nvram commit
reboot

"service restart_wireless" don't take real changes in widht, it will set 149l, it means 149/40
But remember that it may be reset to the defaults when you change the WiFi settings using the Web Interface.
I think many of us would like the opinion of a respected RMerlin for this reason.
