Hello, I'm currently unable to go with a wired setup so I turned my old RT-N66U into a media bridge and have it connected to my desktop. The 66U is connected wirelessly to the RT-AC87U which is two rooms over. Signal is good and when test speeds from my desktop, I pull around 170Mbps. I have COX 300Mbps service, but I don't think it would ever be possible for me to pull close to that, perhaps I'm wrong though?
Both routers have Merlin's latest firmware build, but I've been considering replacing the 66U with another 87U to get 4x4 mimo. However, I learned that the 66U has 3x3 mimo, unless I'm wrong. It does not have AC.
In my situation, is it worth it to replace the 66U with another 87U? When I play GTAV or other games, I find my connection stutters...or drops occasionally. Otherwise, browsing the internet and doing general things is an O.K. experience.
Still, would it be worth it? I'm trying to justify dropping cash, but would like to hear from you folks first.
