How to add wireless router to wired router?

I am trying to add a wireless router to a wired router. When I tried this I could detect the wireless signal OK but could not get connected to the internet.

A friend mentioned that I would need to set up a static IP address for the wireless router to use, or use "bridging". Can anyone point me to a source for more information on this type of configuration?

Coax cable from street - Internet provider modem - wired router (Linksys BEFSR41) - Wireless router(Linksys WRT54GS V.4)

If your clients are already able to connect via wireless, following Method 1 should yield wireless capability to your network as well.
