New Around Here
Hello, new to forum and a relative novice with IT. I am trying to upgrade my home network which is the verison fios gigabit plan. I checked on verizon and it shows that speed going to my house. I had an orbi setup (getting about 285/145), but was older, and I wanted to upgrade to wifi 6. My son is getting into gaming so wanted an ROG router, and something that can utilize the GB speed. I decided on the 2 pack GT6. I have the ONT > verizon 3100 > WAN on 1st GT6 > LAN on GT6 > ethernet > downstairs WAN on 2nd GT6. I have backhaul set to auto. I shut off the wife from the 3100. I have read many threads/articles on setup, but am at this point stuck about about 426/113 on wifi standing near the router on 5-2. On 5-1 it's a little slower, and on 2.5, only 150/80. My sons computer, which is right under the room with the router, and one the same level with the 2nd node, is getting 450/70 (best of the 3 channels). I am trying to use moca to where his computer is, that isn't working either (and a different thread to make). When I use ethernet to my macbook directly from router, am getting 480/471. When I use ethernet from the 2nd node (which is connected also by etherne to router), I got 94/94. The mesh shows that the signal is great, and hardwired to the 2nd node. I am also seeing like 9 devices hooked up, when I only have 3 or 4 that I know are mine.

I am not a full time network specialist, so am thinking of just going back to the orbi. I am a quick leaner, and am fine digging into settings, but I am at a loss as to why network is so underperforming. I would appreciate any advice.

The node is on auto, so maybe connected to router using wireless backhaul. You need to turn on the wired backhaul, aimesh system settings, Ethernet backhaul mode, turn it on and see

Make sure under network map, status menu, the node lan port connected speed is 1Gbps (not 100Mbps)

This appears to be due to an issue with firmware on ASUS routers. The easiest solution is to enable Dual WAN and use LAN 1 as primary with WAN as failover. It slightly bumps up the speeds when connected wirelessly but not completely. I'm hoping ASUS will resolve in a future fw release, but I don't think it'll be resolved anytime soon since it's been quite a while since the GT6 has received any updates.
