Usb samba sharing don't work dsl-68u

Hi everyone, I have a problem with my dsl-68u with the latest version of Merlin firmware installed.
II have activated the samba USB sharing with the following settings, however the device is seen by the pc but does not connect, returning a connection error. I tried to change the various settings and device (Android client) but the result doesn't change.
I specify that with the same settings in the stock firmware it worked perfectly. Disk access via network (Cloud disk) works. What could be the problem?

In the time I used a DSL-AC68U with @GNUton firmware - I had zero issues with the Router's Samba Share - with Linux / Windows and Android devices finding it easily [with early firmware I did find it still needed both SMB1 and SMB2 for all devices to find it [some legacy ones not up to SMB2 protocols could not see the share].

I do see a possible problem with your settings page ...

• "nome del dispositivo" [or Device Name] defaults to the Routers name [in my case DSL-AC68U-???];
• "gruppo di lavoro" [or Work Group] should be set as the Windows Workgroup name defined in your network or the domain name if devices are connecting via an internal domain. Windows workgroup normally defaults to "workgroup".

I am not sure it is wise to use the name USB for both of the above as you have done.

That's what I was thinking which is why I asked for a screenshot of the error message.

That error message appears to be incomplete.

What exactly did you do/type that caused that error to appear and were there any other messages? What version of Windows are you using?

I typed "\\ 192.168.1.1", or "\\ name_router \ name_share" or in network resources I opened the network device. I am using Windows 10 and have the smbv1 option enabled.
In all cases the message "unable to establish a connection" appears immediately. The same problem appears with an android phone where I get the same error message.
I specify that with the same settings and the stock firmware it worked perfectly.

I cannot recreate this error. It may be a bug that is specific to the GNUton firmware you're using. Can you SSH into the router and post the output of this command please.

OK well that explains a lot. The SMB/CIFS server (smbd) is not running, only the name server (nmbd) is. Which explains why you can detect the server but cannot connect to it.

I don't know why that is because I don't use GNUton's firmware. If you post the complete output from the following commands I can compare it to mine and see if there are any obvious problems.

Otherwise you could report it as a bug in the GNUton thread.

Resolved. The problem was that they use a username with too many characters. Using a shorter name (15 characters) the server started working correctly. Thanks again for the help.
