WIFI woes; slow 2G internet speeds

After reverting from Merlin 380.64_2 firmware back to Asus fw, my 2G speeds on AC88U and AC68U doubled in speed from 75Mbps to >150Mbps. 5G speeds were unaffected. I made numerous wireless settings adjustments as indicated in these forums, all to no avail.

i live in the jungle, no router traffic for miles, my device is 3 meters from the router.

Anyone experience this issue on merlin fw and if so, were you able to adjust any settings to compensate for the 2G performance degradation?

Pretty sure they are suggesting to move away from the router more to test. The "theory" here is that it is possible your signal strengths are too great and saturating the receiving side of things.
