I chowned the folders /etc/ssl/man/* to my user:user -R and the build completed without any issues or whines. Weird it didn't add anything to the man/ folder...
Really? Cause it failed to create other folders outside this one for example failed to create a folder in /usr/lib/... .

Anybody having this issue with this 3.84.14 a2 build?

My build environment only complained about not being able to access /etc/ssl/man ... nothing about the /usr/lib/ thingamajig.

I got /usr/lib/engines complaint. chowned to myself and am re-running it.

I don't see why Merlin wont just update the build to include these fixes. Most people have no clue how to add commands or SSH in there routers. Maybe he is busy.

Well... these are alpha test builds so bugs are expected for those who would like to experiment. I guess Merlin is working on more fixes\features for the next alpha\beta release because building for all devices takes a lot of time so better have more fixes\changes rather then releasing a small fix and wasting time building also keeping a mind that the fix is not for a major feature test and also it is still an alpha version . You can always try making a build yourself (I do it everytime I see interesting commits on git, you have a guide on how to build)

Because compiling images take time, it's not just a 2 minutes process. I only generate builds when I need to test something in particular. These alpha builds are NOT releases, and the fact I occasionally chose to upload them should be taken as a bonus, not as a given, planned thing. These WILL have issues and unfinished code, so anyone running them should be ready to revert back to the previous release if a specific build doesn't suit their needs or expectations.

I'm having a problem with this compilation. 2/3 or more thru the build. Create directory yourself?

Something changed with the HND build environment with the latest GPL merge (as it only occurs with the RT-AC86U), and I have no idea why yet - don't have the time at the moment to look into it. The HND build environment is a complete mess.

Firstly, thanks Eric, TheMiron and others for your effort with this fw, really appreciated!

Regarding to this alpha, I have the same error like others with DHCP list not showed in GUI with 384.14 Alpha 2 (dirty upgrade), in my case Asus RT-AC86U, tested with Chrome (latest stable build) and Edge Dev (latest Dev build), the error showed is:
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'style' of null
at sortlist (Advanced_DHCP_Content.asp:557)
at HTMLTableCellElement.onclick (Advanced_DHCP_Content.asp:803)

On the other hand, nvram get dhcp_staticlist output is fine :), so it's only regarding to web interface.

First of all, thank you for thinking ahead of the game and all your great work!

Small Q, is your implemented option to prevent Firefox using DoH in the Alpha 2? (I suppose its there) For my testing on the Alpha 2, i enabled DoH on Firefox and then find myself on their CF DNS. My vpn is set to exclusive with DNS filter set to Router and DOT is enabled. I can disable DoH in Firefox for now, but with any future update from Firefox, I will forget to check if DoH is enabled by default. I rather have my DNS for choosing. Due to the inconvenience not able to SSH in the router to add your recommend line: server=/use-application-dns.net/ in /jffs/configs/dnsmasq.conf...... Just wondering if I get it right.

Thanks!

I too enabled DoH in Firefox with the same test result. Then I realized that the add to the router said "Prevent client auto DoH" and the key word is auto. If you enable DoH manually it will not be blocked by the Merlin firmware.

Oke thanks guys! Clear. I hope Firefox will not switch from Non to Auto to Enabled in future updates Again, Eric I hope you will find a strategic solution for this as well, as I can imagine people will do a clean install of their OS and install Firefox or install Firefox on mobile devices without thinking of that setting and simply forget about it, I know I will J

"Prevent client auto DOH" will "not" let browsers to reroute you to their chosen DNS whether automatically or manually set, instead, the router will use your DOT settings as intended. That's my understanding of that option, if it's not working, maybe RMerlin needs to tweak a little more.

DNSFilter will block client DoT (port 853) if the DNSFilter mode does not support DoT. The new DoH setting will prevent Firefox from automatically enabling DoH (port 443) in upcoming Firefox releases. There are not yet any plans to block DoH in the firmware since it looks the same as normal https traffic. So a Firefox client that manually enables DoH will pass through the router just fine, which is part of the Firefox controversy.

On RT-AC86U, 384.14_alpha2, having issues turning on SSH (after clean flash).
Consistently prompts to set a port number between 1-65535 even when a port number between 1-65535 has been set (including default 22).

Asus did some silly changes to the SSH settings (which are half-broken). I reverted these changes, however some parts weren't fully reverted. This is already fixed on my git repo.
