Finally Bandwidth Monitor does work with Adaptive QoS (@AX86U) !!!

I'm happy to know that Asus has solved this problem on RT-AX86U. Unfortunately, on my RT-AC86U, bandwidth monitor and also traffic monitor and statistics are under-reporting: 6 GB are reported as 14 MB in traffic monitor statistics and 50 Mbps are reported as about 100 Kbps in QoS Bandwidth Monitor.

Moreover, the CPU temperature raised of about 10/15C (we discussed it in Asus Merlin firmware thread, Asus has disabled CPU wait states to solve a minor issue).

I hope that Asus will solve these problem as soon as possibile. I'm really disappointed.

Bye.

Hi,
is there some one with Apple M1 machine? I have noticed that the WiFi shows as connected, but it doesn't seem to send any traffic over the network. I can't ping the router -- it just times out. The Tx Rate in the wifi menu fluctuates a little bit, which makes me think it's sort of connected, but no traffic goes through. Turning wifi off and on again fixes it immediately for a while. No other devices I have have ever had a similar issue.

I have tested some routers and my M1 doesn't work at the moment with:
  • ASUS AX88U
  • ASUS TUF Gaming AX3000
  • ASUS RT-AC86U

M1 works OK with:
  • ASUS AC87U
  • ASUS RT-16N
  • TP-Link Archer AX6000
  • iPhone 12 AX hotspot
At the moment I don't have access to more routers. Other devices (Intel macbook also) work OK. Only M1 have issues.
M1 Mac mini working fine with my AX86U.

Has anyone tried downgrading the firmware from this current RC (41535), on a RT-AC86U? Curious before I take this new RC for a spin. The warning is not clear as to which router/s it refers to.

In answer to my own question, I went ahead and applied the new RC (full reset and manual settings reapplied), but after a couple of hours, I have reverted back to Merlins Beta 3, because there is a drop off, of speed across all routers, via WIFI, between the last ASUS RC (41157) and Merlin 386 B3. In my case I was seeing around a 10 MBPS loss, on download (WIFI). All nodes are connected via ethernet Cat 6 cable, AiMesh 2, system settings, "Ethernet Backhaul" mode enabled.

Reverting back to Merlin 386 B3, I was able to return back to my normal download speed, with the identical settings. I am not using anything related to Trend Micro, no QoS, no VPN, no LE, firewall is on. It's a vanilla setup, with the usual recommendations for both WIFI 2 and 5 settings.

For those interested, I had no issue rolling back to Merlins latest 386 beta 3 via the GUI update for firmware over ethernet, between PC and the main router, including nodes.

My current temperatures on Merlin 386 B3 (Main Router), as it's a bit of a talking point right now, with an ambient temperature of 32c:

Current setup is as per my signature.

Hi All,

For my case I find that after upgrading to RC2-10 from Merlin 386.1 Beta3, I am unable to
  • Downgrade back to Merlin 386.1 Beta 3,
  • actually, I cannot even reload the same version of RC2-10.
This is the warning pop up I get:

PS: If there is any comfort, the FW actually works, Let's Encrypt is working ... just cannot load new firmware. BE CAREFUL ... I hope it is only me :( Happy New Year:)
ASUSWRT_20202,

Looks like I need to use Rescue Mode (Firmware Restoration) on my RT-AX88U. I am using MacBookPro, Question: May I know if can I use the same macOS App - ASUS Firmware Restoration and instructions for restoring RT-AC68U to Restore my RT-AX88U. Thanks.

As a shot have you tried doing it via Wifi only? Connection to Main router via Wifi (for device trying firmware change) and using the standard GUI?

Have you tried downgrading normally over wifi rather than wired ethernet? Works on the AX11000. I used my phone to download the firmware file and also upload it to the router via the the chrome mobile browser. I did have to also temporarily disable AiProtection to get it to work for me, not sure if anyone else has noticed that too or whether it was just my particular case. Certainly worth a try before going down the rescue route.

Neil62 & Darren,

I have tried Wifi Only and with AiProtection Off (as both of you suggested) on both Safari and Chrome on macOS Catalina ... no luck, Firmware update failed :(.

I will continue to use 9.0.0.4_386_41535-g1caa24a as it seems to be working well. I will do the Rescue mode with the next Firmware upgrade. I was asking ASUSWRT_2020 because the default router IP for RT-AC68U is 192.168.1.1 for the Rescue process, where as the default Router IP for RT-AX88U is 192.168.50.1. I just want to minimise the chance of bricking my Router.

Well tried this beta on the XT8 nodes I'm using at home. Update went a bit nuts, spewing error messages faster than I could read them in the log of my main AX88. After a reboot that went away, but the 2nd node doesn't want to connect to 5ghz, the first is connected through ethernet. Tried reboot of the router and nodes. No dice. Tried resetting the nodes and adding them again, no dice. Tried going back to the last official version and went back to working as normal. Tried upgrading once more and again, no 5ghz back haul..

Can you add support TP-Link XDR-6060?
That router almost like AX88, but have more one 2.5g wan/lan
I have using ax88 merlin 384.18 on it:)

Super strange. I have made vpn connection on my M1 Mini on AX88U and I had no issues. After VPN disconnection the traffic drop issue shown up after few minutes again.

I would suggest reading all of the sticky posts across the top of each forum section, and you will find the answer to your question.
TLDR? : Short answer....you are never going to see discussions of cross-flashing firmware across brands or models anywhere on these forums.

192.168.101.x netmask 255.255.255.0 for the guest subnet.
192.168.1.x on netmask 255.255.255.0 for the internal subnet.

Nothing looks wrong here.
BUT! As an example, my ISP modem has an IP address from 192.168.101.x range. I'm with Virgin Media in Ireland.
Is the same issue happens when you're connecting your IOT devices to Guest2?

RC10 - AX88 speed drop as well, but uneven across devices. Speedtest from the PC, before 930-935 up/down. Today 100/30 up/down. From the Router 700/850. Same Speedtest target, multiple run average, within minutes of each sample. AndroidTV boxes, 98 down (native test/Netflix), now 32! Went from Merlin 386b3, full reset, NVRAM cleared, configured from scratch - AX88, AIMESH 2xAC5300 Ethernet Backhaul

Still have the same issue in AP mode and 2 mesh nodes with this build 386 rc2-10. I did a hard reset with each router/node once the flash was completed.
IOT devices drop or are non functional. Cant use Lifx at all, my brilliant light switch has a very hard time staying on the wifi to the point its unusable, my Nest devices drop.
Laptops seem to slow up as do my phones.
Could it be the mesh nodes are to close..? I'm doubting it because I have one on each floor of my home.
I never had this problem when the main router was setup as a router and not an AP. Not sure if that has anything to do with it but...

My Virgin Media Ireland modem has a modem management IP 192.168.101.1.

Guest 2 is on 192.168.1.x network, sharing the same IP pool as the internal network. No problem. But it doesn't get populated to the node.
When I have time, I may try to set the guest 1 to 192.168.201.x to see if it works.

Update:
Changed guest network 1 IP to 192.168.121.x. Same problem. So, it is NOT IP address issue.

Same problem.

Background: I purchased 4x CT8 units (2x packs) a few days ago as a potential replacement for Orbi RBx50 mesh. Intended use is strictly AP mode all wireless backhaul mesh — I like my routers/firewalls separate and can’t run wires in this environment. Got the basic single SSID setup to work with good performance (good enough to seriously consider replacing the Orbi setup) on stock latest firmware and nodes collocated with the Orbi nodes (which form a very stable and good performance star in my environment). Tried Guest network and immediately figured out it works only on the base unit — a showstopper. Was about to repack to return the setup, but learned of this beta and the fact that Guest network on all mesh nodes is part of it (and obviously many other VERY interesting and valuable functions) and decided to give it a shot. I am in a 30 day return window countdown now.

Result of initial testing of 9.0.0.4.386.41535: Summary = works ok as an AP mesh AS LONG AS GUEST NETWORK IS OFF; becomes completely unusable as soon as Guest network is turned on. Unusable = base and guess network up and down cyclically every couple of minutes — had to recover to factory to get back to sanity, no other way to do it as the units didn’t stay up long enough to even be able to manually turn off Guest network.

Next steps: Let’s see how far ASUS can get within 30 days to stabilize this. I am rooting for them as I really (really!) like where this is going, but it’s all going back Jan 30th if it’s not stable/usable as I can’t just throw away that kind of money to help a large company do software testing.

Hello, i have a working AX82U as primary router and AC68U with AI-MESH, can i try this build - 386 rc2-10 - Google Drive ? is at least 90% stable ? 10x

What I've noticed with these last few firmwares on a pair of XT8 is that it takes a few days (and reboots) before the firmware becomes stable. Not sure if there's some internal thing that works itself out, but that has been my experience.
