AX86U and XT8 connection issues with AiMesh

Hi. Ive just bought the above devices to replace my old faithful AC86U but im having major issues with AiMesh.

On Merlin firmware 386.4 my AX86U cant search for mesh nodes at all, the search just spins and spins then fails. Rolled firmware back to 386.3_2 and the search works but keep getting connection failures.

Any advice would be appreciated before i send them back.

Did you try with current Asuswrt on the AX86U?

Tried latest stock, found devices on scan but failed to join mesh every time ive tried. Merlin fw isnt even able to discover the devices.

Same for the AC86U as node? Make sure the node firmware is reset and not configured before trying to add it.

You could try wiring the node WAN to router LAN, add the node, and then see if it continues working after disconnecting the Ethernet cable.

If no joy, I would also try the previous release AX86U firmware... I have some suspicions about current firmware 46061 and adding nodes that I will revisit with the next firmware release.

Besides this issue, are both 5-GHz radios operating on the XT8?
