Hi all, I have no luck in trying to find the following error from my Asus RT-68U's (set up in Aimesh with two other RT-68U's on the upper floors) systemlog: "Need to restart wireless due current chanspec is un-available".

It keeps disconnecting clients. This problem popped up a few weeks ago, auto-update is on and all three have the most recent firmware. The channel selection is on AUTO in the router setup.

And I haven't been pressing any buttons or changing any settings.. o_O

Here's a piece of systemlog of when it disconnects:

Anyone a clue what is going on? Many thanks! :)

The ISP isn't the problem by the way, the ISP fiberglass modem/router's wifi works perfectly and is my working back-up.

The Aimesh router is next to that, wired, on the ground floor and has back haul to both Aimesh nodes on the first and second floor with Cat 6 cables.

ISP sells their own accespoints/nodes now, not too keen switching to that after investing in two new 68U's for this house.. :D

A relatively recent firmware introduced excessive Auto channel scanning and changing. I suggest you try using fixed channels... the least used around you. For 2.4, try 1, 6, or 11 at 20 MHz. For 5.0, try 149 or above at 80 MHz.

Thanks, will try that!

edit: set the 2.4Ghz on fixed but the 5Ghz only goes up to 140 maximum?

I know this is a bit dated, but is there further discussion of this issue somewhere? I'm here with my AC68U running Asuswrt 384.18 which is seeing random disconnects on an LGv60, and two iPhones. All devices are up to date and well within range of the router (~20' with only wood and sheetrock wall between one of them). I've had this router at least 4 years and and only in the past 3 months have seen any issue with it.
Thanks.

If you are using Asuswrt-Merlin firmware, you might want to browse that sub forum.

If the issue arrived with recent firmware, you might want to return to previous firmware.

If you have not reset your router lately, you might want to reset it and configure from scratch.

If you have not reviewed your surrounding WiFi lately, you might want to do so and consider your WiFi channel assignments. Using fixed channels will reduce Auto channel changes and any related disruption, but may not fix your particular client issue or failing hardware.

Not really what I was asking but thank you for taking the time to reply.

I have this issue too. brand new ac86u. keeps dropping 5g mutliple times throughout the day. Quite annoying since I'm vpn apps with kill swithes on most of the devices, so its extremely noticeable. maybe that is the prob?

"Oct 18 17:54:37 cfg_server: wl_chanspec_changed_action: Need to restart wireless due current 5G chanspec is un-available "

I believe this also happened when I was testing out the ax58u for a short while. It also kept dropping 5g cvonnections, never noticed it happening on 2g. I suspect its due to using aimesh. I could be wrong. Was even worse when using 5g as the backhaul. when switching to ethernet backhaul its not as bad but still happens way too often.

IF it continues to cause disturbance I will try what the solution was for the OP.

I think the problem was I had merlin on the main router and stock on the node. i changed the node to match the merlin firmware and now I'm not seeing the issue for over a day now. will report back if that changes.

Do you know if your node stock version was the same version your main router Merlin was based on?
