New Around Here
I just bought an ASUS RT-AC5300 and for the first hour it worked just fine. Then I've seen there's a newer firmware and I've updated (to 3.0.0.4.380.3941).

Since then the 2.4GHz network doesn't work anymore. It shows up in the interface, I can configure it (though when I try to select a channel I can only select from 36 up, not from 1 to 11 or 13) but when I connect to it I am actually connected @5GHz. Also, the second 5GHz network's SSID doesn't show up anymore.

I've downgraded to 3.0.0.4.380.3341 and still nothing. I've installed Merlin's 380.61, no luck. I've used the recovery tool to downgrade to an even older version (3.0.0.4.380.838 and then Merlin's 380.57) and still a no go. All I got is the high 5GHz band's SSID back.

On the older version I cannot even select the wireless type (auto, n only or legacy) or the channel, they are missing from the select boxes (under Wireless > General Tab).

Also, with Merlin's 380.57, when I hover the top right corner wifi icon, in the popup I get 2.4G: Channel 0 (the 5GHz networks display their proper channel).

The same behavior applies to the guest networks.

Below it's my wireless log:

=====================================================

Notice the 2.4GHz SSID is actually running on 5GHz...

I also get A LOT of these errors in the General Log:
Aug 1 03:00:58 kernel: External imprecise Data abort at addr=0x2ac2e3b0, fsr=0x1406, pc=0x802042f0 lr=0x8020434c ignored.

Any idea if it's a hardware fault or should I just wait for an update?

Thank you!

You mean the indicator LED for 2.4GHz band is off? Did you update f/w using wireless connection by any chance?

the led is off and as you can see, instead of the 2.4GHz it creates the 5GHz network. I've updated using the mobile app, Asus Router, the first time. It stopped working since then. Why, is there a problem with that?

Post your system log including the boot entries.

I don't see anything particular in the log. Try doing just a factory default reset and configuring only the basics, with only alphanumerics as your SSID and WPA2 keys. If it still fails, contact Asus's tech support. My guess is either something is corrupted in your configuration, or one of the 5 GHz radios fails to initialize, and the 2.4 GHz radio ends up taking that missing interface's name, leading to those abnormal results.

I did everything you can think of. Factory reset, soft and hard, rescue, power cycle... Nothing helped

Contact their tech support then, nothing more you can do. This is most likely a hardware defect.

I've already filed an RMA with the store I bought it from, they'll exchange it for me as DOA. Thanks for the help though.
