Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.5 is now available

RT-BE92 here, was on the previous stable .4 and upgraded to this stable version .5 via dirty flash.
Have an RT-AX56 as mesh node with ethernet backhaul.

Can get WAN access from the RT-AX56 but not LAN:
Have a Home Assistant server running on the main network (wired connection) and Android device or Win laptop when connected to the AX56 on the main network SSID can no longer find my Home Assistant server. Quite annoying as I need the mesh node to connect when I arrive home to operate the garage or front door. Without access, that's no longer possible so Mrs is giving me grief 🤣
With .4 this was working as expected.

I deleted the mesh node and re-established it with the same outcome. Any ideas?

Found it! As part of some re-org I had also disconnected and reconnected some cables after the upgrade and for some reason when I plug the Home Assistant server into port 1 it works fine, port 3 is a no-go.
In hindsight I do remember reading something in the Beta thread about port allocation on this router not being up to snuff, guess that applies to me too 😊
Not going to play around with it beyond this, as long as it's working that'll do me for now. Would be great to see the port thing resolved though as now I need to figure out what else was wired in which is probably unresponsive now as I had to switch cables around 🤔

I have a rt-be92u. Is that normal, in wifi menu/professional the universal beamforming and explicit beamforming and wifi 7 ofdma wifi 7- mu-mimo not showing.
I installed the last 3006.102.5 firmware. Deleted the browser cache, i tried another browser. Tried the router factory reset. But when i put back the last 3.0.0.6.102_37563 original firmware the menu is working.

Didn't notice before, but you're right, they are missing. May be they realized it didn't work anyway :)

Dirty upgrade on my AXE-16000 overnight and it seems like there's no complications in the morning!

Even with my (no longer supported) AI-Mesh extenders being on different firmware.

I did a full factory reset on previous 102.4 version but settings for Transmission client were still there when I upgraded and configured 102.5! Are they "stored" on swap partition or jffs?

How did you install Transmission? Probably stored on the external drive.

You are right, the options are not present on my be92u.

VPN Director broke for me in 3006.102.4 with the inability to tunnel to my wireguard server via WAN interface (worked perfectly on the prior versions of firmware) but using the Domain VPN Routing script by @Ranger802004 was an effective workaround. On this lates release - 3006.102.5 - even that script is no longer effective. I am now totally screwed for not being able to access by home network when VPN client is turned on (I keep mine always on). I would go back to stock firmware to try but I also need to use Tailscale. I really wish that someone could provide some help in resolving this unfortunate change with the last couple of updates. These were all fresh installs with WPS resets and running on RT-BE88U. 😢

Dirty upgrade from 3006.102.4 to 3006.102.5 on my GT-AX6000. Everything seems fine and working as expected, no issues observed so far. :D

BE92U Dirty upgrade from 102.4 version. so far no issues.

Only one strange problem was that, it happened in several previous Merlin firmware. Password will not recognise after 1-2 week usage and showing that password was invalid when login. Power cycle the router will fixed and can login again. Password do not contain any special all invalid characters or symbols.

Thanks Merlin
i have found a second reboot after flash avoids this problem.

I have noticed a cron issue within incorrect time/date sync in the logs corresponding with this. Im not sure if its related.

Same here on my BE88U... options missing from prof. wireless menu (the beamforming but also the wifi 5 modulation etc. see screenshots attached).
Im "missing" 8 options between 102.4 and 102.5.

Edit : rolled back to 102.4 and got options back, flashed to 102.5 and they where gone again.
Resetting to factorysettings and then flashing the new Merlin firmware didnt "fix" the missing options.
So i guess im waiting for a reply from @RMerlin what to do with this (bug or intended). There is a chance this is a change i guess.
Untill then im staying on 102.4.

I initially started looking into a suspected bug in the current firmware beta release. I have noticed a bit of latency increase when using wifi and its affecting connection stream so very slightly as it goes unnoticed to those that are not paying attention. Started off when my kids all started complaining of rubber banding, frequently, but very small. I analyzed my own system and noticed the behavior as well. I know you are unable to do anything directly with the Broadcom drivers, but I figured I would post this here for your and everyone else's awareness. Maybe Broadcom might make a pit stop here and decide to do their own work on this! :)

This is not a fatal issue, and it recovers on its own with very little true impact. This also tracks with not being able to use the BSD or smart connect NVRAM parameters in this version as well. When I do it creates a huge issue whereas before this release it was fine. This also is not just a single device or device type, seems to just happen with most of the connected devices to my network. As I understand it there is a new Broadcom driver in this release or am I mistaken?

Router Model: ASUS [BE96U]
Firmware Version: [Merlin 3006.102.5]
Date Observed: Ongoing (last confirmed: Aug 8)

Log Example:
kernel: CFG80211-ERROR) wl_cfg80211_change_station :
kernel: WLC_SCB_DEAUTHORIZE error (-30)

This error occurs consistently during station disassociation events, usually right after one of the following conditions:
  • Station disconnects due to inactivity.
  • BSS transition is attempted and rejected.
  • Manual or idle roaming.
  • WPA2/RSN handshakes are restarted.
Full Log Sample:
wlceventd: wl1.1: Deauth_ind REDACTED, reason: inactivity (4)
kernel: CFG80211-ERROR) wl_cfg80211_change_station :
kernel: WLC_SCB_DEAUTHORIZE error (-30)
hostapd: WPA: pairwise key handshake completed (RSN)

Observed Behavior:
  • The error is always preceded by Deauth_ind or Disassoc.
  • The error does not prevent client reconnection — WPA handshake and DHCP complete immediately.
  • Certain clients (e.g., iPhones, IoT appliances) appear to trigger the issue more often.
Additional Context:
  • Band Steering is active. BSS Transition frames are logged and sometimes fail with "STA reject" responses.
    Example:
    bsd: STA:xx:xx:xx no response
bsd: BSS Transit Response: STA reject
  • DHCP works normally, and clients recover quickly.
  • No driver customizations have been applied.

Can you please check the guest networks? Mine are rejecting connection after a reboot cycle.

Most of the complaints I noticed lately are from WiFi 7 users...
Yep, those routers are still in beta 😅

Thanks. Let me try at next firmware upgrade with double reboot.

Well, I haven't had any issue with WiFi 7, specifically. Until this version it actually worked quite well. Even MLO "works" its just not useful so I don't use it. MLO is actually slower than just 320Mhz width in my personal testing.

Current setup, ATT 2GB symmetric with a BGW-320-500 passthrough -firewalla gold plus - asus BE96U as AP with merlin 102.4 ( now .5) and MLO activated. 68 devices 2.4 VLAN for IoT devices, MLO For newer ones ( 5 and 6 bands together ). my galaxy s25 ultra is pretty much very steady connected to MLO and provides 1.4 1.6 Gb down and up, I also have an iPhone 16 pro max and that one does drops from WIFI once a day and if it doesn’t drop it just goes back to wifi 5 and only gives 15-17 Mb down… but when connected to wifi 6 or MLO it give the same as the galaxy, 1.4 to 1.6 Gb down and up… btw for this last version I did notice the missing settings in the professional tab hopefully we can get clarification on this, but other than that seems to be working good.
