Actually Your fiber connection does have a "modem" sort of. It will be an Optical Network Terminator (ONT) and may be located outside your residence.
I was originally on Centurylink FIOS and they located the ONT outside. My builder had run a CAT5 cable from the patch panel inside to where the conduit came up along side the house. We have a conventional phone so the Centurylink tech split the CAT5e for phone (one pair of wires) and 100 MB internet (two pair of wires). I ran a second CAT5 cable from my router to the ONT to get a 1 GB connection.
Your ONT may have a second port for Ethernet conection that could be used for link aggregation but you will need to run a second Ethernet cable.
