Poor speeds on internal speedtest.net test

When running a speed test from the speedtest.net app on my desktop computer which is wired to LAN1 on the RT-AC86U (Merlin 386.3_2), I can easily get 940Mbps/750Mbps.
When I log into the router via web portal or use the Asus Router App and do the speed test from inside the router, it caps out between 300-550Mbps, to the same server.

The last test I did remotely using the App was 450.83 Mbps/417.80Mbps, Ping: 0.5 ms, Jitter:0.05 ms, Loss: 0.00%.

Ping and jitter and loss are the same from the desktop computer via the speedtest.net app, but the speeds are 940/750.

To be clear, this speed discrepancy also happened with the regular Asus firmware, I was hoping the Merlin FW would be a bit better.

Is this normal for this router?

Yes, it's a known limitation. Just use a PC based test.
