I've always used Asus Merlin with my ac88u. But the last couple of firmware updates haven't worked for me no matter what I do and I've had to switch back to stock.

The issue goes like this... Upgrade from stock to Merlin, then I format. Right after the format the router does not take me through the setup wizard. I can manually change all the settings but my wifi networks no longer work. An ancillary issue is the devices that can connect don't get internet and show up under wireless log with glitchy text.

Thank you so much for any help

What does 'format' mean, to you, with regards to an Asus router?

I use this to format to default. Usually after that you go through the setup wizard

Following a factory default reset the Internet won't be working until you've completed the Quick Internet Setup, and Wifi won't connect until you reconfigure wifi as the SSID and passphrases will also be reset (generally the temporary SSID will be ASUS or ASUS_something).

The IP address might also have changed if you aren't using the default 192.168.50.1 subnet. If in doubts, connect with http://router.asus.com (older firmware) or http://www.asusrouter.com/ (newer firmware), after you have reconnected to the temporary Wifi SSID (if over wifi).

If you're not seeing the Setup Wizard immediately afterward, it hasn't reset fully/completely/properly.

I would use the link below to get your router back to a good/known state. If that doesn't work, to me, it indicates a hardware issue and the router is tossed.

QIS can easily be bypassed by adding
Code:
/index.asp
to the domain or ip, which some browsers will do automatically if it's been entered previously. However you still get asked to change the admin username and password.

The first part is exactly what happens. But I don't know how to make it work from there. Are you saying a different IP address can be a solution? Or is there something wrong with my router?
