Router Identification

Not sure if it is just the 43 firmware or other merlin versions as well but router is being identified as a UPnP router in my network.

I thought in previous merlin versions it said RT-N66U but not sure and do not feel like loading older firmware right now.

Stock firmware identifies the router correctly.

KevTech, it shows UPnP router for me too.

Previously, it did identify the router model correctly.

Both Asus and I have been doing changes in recent firmware releases regarding UPnP. It's possible that one of their changes didn't align with mine, causing the miniunpd config file to miss the device's friendly name.

Huge Wireless Range reduction

Hello,

I have recently upgraded my rt-n66u to stock 5571 (the latest version if I'm not mistaken) and saw some huge Wireless Range issues. My wireless range on the previous version was perfect (unfortunately can't remember the version but was 8 months older). Currently I went through a lot and found out your custom firmwares and tried 374.43.

Now before doing this upgrade, I did a reset of the router using the reset button and I still see WiFi range issues. Can someone help me on this?

Did you reset the router to default AFTER upgrading to Merlin's firmware? According to your post, you said you reset the router BEFORE applying the upgrade. It's recommended to reset the router AFTER the upgrade and go from there.

Is Wake on lan working through the wol page for anyone? I use a monitoring program and its not picking up any packets when using the web based page. If I send from another computer it picks it up fine. This is all while windows is on.

Is it possible to get name back in future releases?

Intermittent connection to internet with upgrades past .42

Hi, just like to feedback that I have been getting intermittent connections to the internet with firmware .42 and .43
Reverted back to .41 for stability. Could it be due to the UPNP design?

I've been having connection issues since I updated to .43 with the RT-N66U.
Notice it more when watching streams or playing online games such as BF4 and Diablo 3.

Connection speeds are solid and no latency issues. Just a hiccup every now and then.

I will rollback to .41 and see how that goes.

IP range blocking

Is there an easy way to implement ip range blocking Merlin on the AC68U router? Or maybe a feature you will add later?

They have tryed from couple ips and continue to try, want to block there ip range if possible.

Before Merlin added deny list of IP address, you may want to add a white list of allowed IP in "Specified IP address" in the "Administration > System" tab.

Did that increase ur wireless strength as well when u reverted or keep any bars from dropping?

...To everyone, my n66u says its name is upnp as well under network devices on my pc

Same shirt happened to me bro.

I've also been having problems with my internet going out more regularly.
That seems like it defiantly could be caused by the upnp changes being as that controls the ports.

bug

Does anyone else have the bug to where if u change certain wifi settings... after u reboot afterwards instead of the 2.4 ghz band being highlighted at the top of the main firmware page the 5 ghz band will be highlighted instead?

Do you have a vpn service app on your phone by any chance? I downloaded one and put the wrong password in for my vpn and my router showed those in the logs and that's what it was from. Never saw them again after uninstalling the apps

I've two Asus routers with 374.43 and 374.43_2. Thinking of using one of them as a VPN server.

How do I do that?

Have tried to configure the main one as "Wireless router mode (Default)" and the 2nd one as "Access Point(AP) mode". However, the VPN option does not show up on the AP mode.

AC66U -> Main router
AC56S -> thinking of AP + VPN server
