Trying to find a 5ghz adapter with the longest range.

My neighbor agreed to let me use his wireless and my adapter is not pulling in the signal from the router. The router is one of the highest end Netgears available, and it is as close to my house as it can be.

The Adapter I have now ASUS USB N53 gets one bar and a link quality of 6 according to inSSIDer. It will connect and load pages but it is very intermittent and not reliable.

Was looking at the AWUS051NH from Alfa networks but I was wondering if that is the best one out there.

thanks!

The longest range "adapter" will be a same-class router (N900, N600, etc.) operating in Bridge mode.

Routers have more room so have better antennas and usually transmit receive amplifiers.

5 GHz is tough for your application, especially if you are trying to go through walls.
