New Around Here
This happened from several weeks ago.

I update my router from 384.7 to 384.11.0 months ago , add some softwares at that time:

- entware-setup.sh
- block scan
https://www.snbforums.com/threads/yet-another-malware-block-script-using-ipset-v4-and-v6.38935/
- speedtest https://www.snbforums.com/threads/spdmerlin-automated-speedtests-with-graphs.55904/

Then I found my network become extremly unstable .As I remenber, I set swap by twice size of memory , in order to run speedtest. But this seems the problem, increate the swap neither work , it would failed test in some ranges of a day .

Uninstall those softwares didn't work , so I reset my router (include options), clear jffs space and refresh new firmware 384.12 .

In nearly weeks, I found a strange problem that my network would stuck after my PC started up. login in webui would always find connection is alive . It actually can access internet right after PC started up, may be several seconds later, the network stuck .

router -> modern is bridge mode , router dialing.

What is the problem ?
Is any way I can test my network to examine this problem.

I have a similar issue on my 86U with latest Merlin.
Some times when i switch on the PC connected by LAN to the router, the router becomes unresponsive (only wifi works) and after a few seconds it reboots autonomously.
After that everything works well.

I'm using a very basic configuration:
- PPOE on VLAN 1036
- VPN with my DDNS
- VOIP connection
- Entware
- Diversion

I have tried to plan a daily reboot of the router just to see if it helps but ... so far the problem is still there avery now and then. Also during reboot sometimes the router remains stuck with all the led off, wifi ON and no Internet connection (need manual switch OFF/ON).

Welcome to the forum.

Reading between the lines, your router was perfectly stable before you started loading it “add some softwares”).

If it were me, I’d reset back manually and minimally using L&LD’s guide:

https://www.snbforums.com/threads/n...l-and-manual-configuration.27115/#post-205573

(Have a look at Xentrk’s too:
https://x3mtek.com/asuswrt-merlin-firmware-upgrade/)

Having done that, following the guide closely - no shortcuts! - I’d then install AMTM

https://www.snbforums.com/threads/amtm-step-by-step-install-guide-l-ld.56237/

Then install Diversion as your ad blocker and Skynet as its essential companion. And then take it step by step from there, adding any additional scripts through AMTM.

The latest stable Asuswrt-Merlin firmware version is 384.12 and the firewall script you use has not been updated in 2 years.

Sorry, maybe I didn't decritbe correctly. At the point of the software caused problem, I reset router , cleared settings jffs partition. Then I refreshed lastest version 384.11.2 at that time , now is already 384.12 which updated some weeks ago.

That problem occured after the first refresh , still happen in lastest version.

-----

PS. For lastest version 384.12 , it would show

- my newwork is disconnected
- but it have been allacated an IP

I also can see , the light on my modern and router lan 1 is flashing which indicate network is normal .

I have to click disconnect to make sure it offline , then click connect button to make it work.

When you reset the router, you inserted all your ;settings yourself, by hand; you didn’t restore settings from a backup file?

I feel you still need to use L&LD’s guide to reset your router to its minimal state and then see if you still have the problem. The RT-AC68U is reliable and so, it’s a fair bet, that when there are problems like those you are having, they are usually fixed by a careful and thorough reset, following the guide very carefully.

No , I didn't . I assumed the settings was poisioned by the software , so do a clean refresh .
My step is:
1. reset router
2. refresh firmware
3. reset router
4. add settings menually

I think it is pretty clean .

This still isn’t necessarily the Manual and Minimal procedure as advocated by L&LD.

In Step 4, for example, after adding only the most essential settings - just enough to get you connected, and certainly no scripts - dies the problem still occur?

Suggested next step would be the “Nuclear” Reset, following it exactly as set out even if you feel it looks similar to something you tried in the past. It has been proven to work in several cases. And if it doesn’t work, it will have shown where the problem isn’t.

@mithril
Is it possible to replace the modem with a third party on eg, a dreyteck vigor 130, because the one you're using looks like a sagecom and I want to be sure it's in bridge mode first to troubleshoot.

The moden is provided by ISP , ISP strict I have to use it . Though this modern does have router features , isn't diaing from ac68 more stable ? Because the spec of that isn't good enough to hanlde too many connections (some download software may make it stuck if I use it as router ) .

And this modern was fine before my ac68 went wrong .

If it's VDSL you can change the modem and just clone the Mac of the ISP unit.
