Any real downsides to using WAN ports for LAN? Increased router CPU usage?

AX86U Pro. Has WAN ports that can be used as an extra LAN port. Any downside to doing so?

On one forum I read that the router CPU usage goes up because the router itself has to bridge the WAN port to the LAN.

Is that a legitimate concern on something like the AX86U Pro?

Thanks for any input.

No issues using the 2.5 GB port as a LAN port on the RT-AX86U Pro. Have my NAS on it running at 1 GB.

Edit to add: don't notice any increase in CPU usage but I don't keep a close eye on it.

Using the 2.5 GB port for backhaul to AX86U 2.5 GB port. No problems. I, too, have used the 2.5 GB port to my NAS with no issues.

There are certain models where it seems to be an issue, I think people found using wan for backhaul on XT8 resulted in reduced throughput, but I don't think it is common.

Sounds like others aren't having any issues on your model so should be good.
