It's also causing forum spam because people can't take 5 mins to do a forum search and realize they are the 20th person to ask the same frigging question... Heck, people can't even take the time to read the very thread in which they are posting when the question they are asking was already answered in the same thread.
Well yeah, there is that. :-( I could never be a developer, I'd start swearing at people regularly in the comments section.

I did, same problem, do you think you can share your wireless professional settings
As requested:

Exclude drive from spinning down is not working. I have never tried to use this feature before. I added a thumb drive with a swap file. I verified it is mounted as sdc via SSH, checked sdc to exclude from spinning down but the disk is spinning down. My understanding is you do not want the swap file drive to be spinning down.

I also would like to apologize for my dcd crash forum spam. I do read the forum before I post but did not connect the dots properly on the dcd crash.

I work on a helpdesk where the ticket submission form literally searches our KB, and the number of people that ignoring the suggested articles that will solve the problem just for me to send it to them...

Quite a few online support interface will actually do a KB search for you based on the description of your problem before actually letting you submit the request. Not sure a lot of people actually read them even if the article is pointed to them, but if it saves a few tickets and there, why not... (That was actually the case when I recently submitted a ticket to nVidia, the online form did a search of their KB and showed me various suggestions - none of which applied to my case tho).

He wasn’t asking the developer if there was an issue. What’s the point of the thread, if you can’t ask questions? It seems you know it’s an ongoing issue, then answer his post and explain. That’s what helps the developer.
Thanks dude!
I’ve only just got the AC86U and I’m still getting used to it’s quirks.
It’s running pretty well though at the moment.

Oh and I missed RMerlin’s comment about the issue on the 28th December, I just scanned through and didn’t see it, hence me asking

How are you liking that 86U?

When they were on sale during the holidays, I was thinking about picking one up. Since I don’t use VPN, and my 1900p does all I need I passed for now. It was very tempting, though. :D

It’s a great router!
I got it mainly for using the VPN, my AC68U could only manage 23mbs whereas the AC86U maxes out my connection.
I keep losing samba access on my laptop to my HDD but I’m sure it’s something to do with my laptop setup.
All good though :)
I’ve also got my AC68U setup as a repeater so my lad can have a good connection in his bedroom, its working better than I thought it would :)

Is this anything to worry about on my AC86U?

It has appeared a few times since updating.
I turned off Traffic Analyzer at 9am this morning after getting the same error, that was 6 hours ago, no error since.
I’ll update if it comes back.

I'm extremely pleased with the 86U so far. I upgraded because my internet provider keeps raising the speed of my service and the older router (also ASUS) was getting long-in-the-tooth at handling the higher WAN speeds. And with the 86U being on the latest firmware track with Merlin support upgrading was a no-brainer. I primarily use the routing, WiFi, and firewall features. Not VPN, AiCloud, or other add-ons so can't comment there. But it is ROCK solid and never needs rebooting with my usage. I work from home via VPN and need almost permanent VPN connections through the router to the work network, and I can keep VPN connections up for many days without interruption.

It is an awesome router, I’ve had a few over the years but none as powerful as this one.
It’s great that you have yours setup and running well, I’m still tinkering lol
I have two boys with Xbox ones In their rooms and a very old house with very thick walls, limited connectivity upstairs, hence my ac68u being used as a repeater.
I’ve got it setup but it’s still not quite right so I’m swatting up on how to achieve the best ping :)

It was worth a try but it didn’t work.

I did, same problem, do you think you can share your wireless professional settings
Try not changing any of the Professional settings. I had almost given up on my RT-AC68, which has worked terribly ever since AiMesh, but thought of an experiment. Reset to factory defaults and don't touch the Professional settings (mostly) which I would normally tweak. I do disable universal beamforming as the one exception. Now, everything works as I would expect. Apparently, certain Professional settings are required as part of the new AiMesh code which does not restrict changing settings that will mess things up. The backend of ASUSWRT should control required settings for correct operation, not the web-ui.

My inspiration for this experiment came from the R7800 which doesn't have anything close to the Asus Professional settings tab.

Somehow missed that there was a second build of Alpha 1 last Monday.

Installed it today; this one does seem to boot at normal speed on my AC86U.

Also the attached USB flash drive is finally booting clean thanks to @john9527's changes!

All these with AC3200.

not new issues however, but if you skip the quick setup wizard when you go to login after, you get a _huge_ login screen prompting to change the default password before final login. Can the size of these fields be changed to match your tweaked smaller login?

under wireless, there is a tab called "Roaming Block List" which points to http://192.168.1.1/Advanced_Roaming_Block_Content.asp that results in a 404.

on the Administartion>Privacy tab is the text notice to be able to withdraw from the tm ai stuff, but there is no option to do so.

On the AiCloud page, there is an uninstall button, but it doesn't seem to work. After clicking it the "USB Application" page shows "Uninstalling" instead of the app list, but it doesn't finish. restarting the router brings it back.

Also, https://www.snbforums.com/threads/ac3200-missing-5g-2-temp.53974/ can this be fixed?

Loaded up the 88 version of alpha 1 yesterday. Noticed this in the logs:

Jan 6 18:00:12 A.QoS: qos_count=0, qos_check=0
Jan 6 18:00:12 kernel: ERR[qos_start:3364] qos_ops is not registered!
Jan 6 18:00:12 A.QoS: set_qos_on fails
Jan 6 18:00:12 A.QoS: restart A.QoS because set_qos_conf / set_qos_on / setup rule fail
Jan 6 18:00:12 kernel: ioctl_iqos_op_switch(1) fail!
Jan 6 18:00:13 Router: sh /opt/S50downloadmaster.1 start
Jan 6 18:00:14 A.QoS: qos_count=0, qos_check=1
Jan 6 18:00:18 A.QoS: qos rule is less than 22
Jan 6 18:00:18 A.QoS: restart A.QoS because set_qos_conf / set_qos_on / setup rule fail
Jan 6 18:00:20 A.QoS: qos_count=1, qos_check=1

and it continued to complain about QOS rule less than 22. Seem to have some DHCP problems (only 19 of the normal 73 devices pop), but can't find the source in the logs. The requests are certainly being generated. No prob, will go back to last stable.

Also, I've long had DHCP poblems with some wifi devices and just read the comment about requiring a proper domain name when using the dnsfilter (this is on stable branch). Inserted domain and things started working. Would you please add that warning to the DNSfilter page. Thanks. Great work by the way.

You can only withdraw consent if you have previously accepted the EULA having turned on AIProtection.

That setting works exactly as intended.

under wireless, there is a tab called "Roaming Block List" which points to http://192.168.1.1/Advanced_Roaming_Block_Content.asp that results in a 404.

Already reported in this thread .

You have to turn off everything that uses TrendMicro. So QOS & AI Protection must be turned off also. That was the mistake I made until someone pointed it out to me on this forum. I have had no dcd crashes for 3 days now after making sure all TrendMicro items are turned off.

I just upgraded to Merlin’s refreshed alpha1 (g951fac98d) and everything running fine on my bland setup. Prior to upgrading, all my clients stayed connected to WiFi for 138 hours. :)

I’ll suffer the crashes rather than switch all the trend micro stuff off.
